Dear Reader,
In the last issue, the king had gone to the battle group against his brother’s advice. You can find the last few issues here.
He fought ignoring the signs from his weak bones, about half and hour into the battle, the great king Laku was stabbed with a dagger from behind.
One of his soldiers held him and pulled him aside just before he fell to the ground. He looked up to the sky, and then straight into the face of the soldier and said, “Find Nwe, find my son”. The soldier who looked even more confused after the kings words kept shouting “My king, my king”. If only a loud shout could bring one back to life, many wouldn’t be dead. The king breathed his last breath and gave up.
Months had passed and the king had been buried. Now it was time to crown a new king. The elders sat at the kings sitting room where they usually had their deliberations as they kept asking the critical question, “Who should be the next king?”
The king’s brother said, “King Laku didn’t have a son, I don’t see why I should not be king.” An elder cut him short and said, “The king’s last words, we cannot ignore. Clearly the king knew something and we should find the maid Nwe.“
The king’s brother didn’t have any ally this time as everyone nodded in agreement with what the elder had said.
The search for Nwe started. Questions were asked, some were threatened and finally her whereabouts were disclosed by her closest friend, a fellow palace maid.
That same night, guards were deployed to Nwe’s maternal grandmother’s home. “Follow us , you are needed at the palace”, they instructed the moment they saw her . She knew she didn’t have much of a choice, so although she was scared, she grabbed her baby, who was just few days old and followed them. The guards didn’t seem interested in the fact that the baby was too tender to be on the road.
At dawn, the elders gathered again to hear Nwe. Now it had dawned on her what was going on. Tears had become her companion, with all that had happened. She broke down, crying profusely.
“You carry a child in your hands Nwe, who is the father ?”
“This child I hold is the great King Laku’s seed.”
More confusion on the faces of the elders as they found it hard to believe. “There has to be a way to find out” muttered one of the elders. “We should verify if truly this child is royalty.”
A white researcher who visited the village at the time heard rumors about what was going on and asked to have a meeting with the elders. “Oyibo speak”, the head chief said.
“Elders, I am so sorry for your loss. I heard the king was a great king, may he find rest. Well, there is a way to answer this question that we all ask. I am a scientist and in weeks I can provide an answer to whether this baby is the son of the great king.”
“Ehhhhheeeen! Are you sure Oyibo”? The head of the elders asked emphatically. “Yes elder, science doesn’t lie and like I said we will get our answer in weeks.”
Dear reader, picture for a minute how much chaos would have happened if there was nothing like a DNA Test. Imagine the kind of disaster or maybe war that would have ensued? How about the discord that would have happened among the elders? How about the state of confusion the people would have been left in?
DNA Testing continues to answer questions and solve problems, pacifying very heated situations.
At CTS, this is what we will continue to do, to provide answers where there is none and to help individuals, families and communities resolve conflicts.
